A Marmite Site

We're onsite now, week 9. To update a few things, the large tomato greenhouse next to the site is now stripped of its plastic and is being readied for operation so the noisy flapping plastic has gone. Long stay rates are terrific value for money, 2 & 3 nights are not, if you're here to do 4 weeks wild camping clothes washing that's fine obviously but you'll pay for it. It's 2.1 miles walk to the beach, or you can cycle. The winds around here can be a bit challenging at times, definitely keep an eye on the weather forecast, although it always has settled by night time. You really need a bike here for the beach, Lagoon, or the local Spar and excellent neighbouring bar is a 1 mile walk. The onsite shop is very well stocked and not overpriced. Bar food is fair, closed Mondays during our stay but open during the peak months. Facilities are kept very clean indeed and any issues are soon sorted by the excellent friendly staff. Car hire delivered to the site is great value, particularly long term unsurprisingly. Do your research, if you don't want to see the greenhouses - don't visit this area, if you want great value, almost zero rainfall, a lovely friendly site and Village (Cabo is super) nearby, then visit. Super cheap bus service runs to Almería and beyond and is across from the Spar in Pujaire. Certainly not a place for adolescents, apart from the football pitch there's little here for that age group. Youngsters will be happy all day no doubt at the pool. We booked for 32 nights and are currently on night 63 and will unlikely leave until the 90 day max approaches. As I say, a Marmite site, but if you visit here for a couple of nights and don't give the area a chance that's a shame. Sat writing this at 08:15, sun glorious as always.

Interesting

This is a difficult site to review, a mixed bag. It is set in a National Park, semi desert, arid with scrub and trees and some lagoons, quite good for birdwatching (the flamingoes are expected soon) fair walks and stretches of beach to yourself, the sea is calm and crystal clear and swimmable. It's quiet, no traffic, no high-rise, no seagulls even, just tiny birds and gentle breezes and occasionally a group of goats with bells being moved. Good restaurants on the few complexes along the beach, good fish and good prices. The site has good clean facilities and fair size pitches with mixed nationalities. There is a little shop with sparse stocks, although there is a Spa in the next village. The downside is that all this area of Spain is covered in plastic tomato houses and the site butts up to some. Also there is litter and dog poo about. And the site is basic-ish. But sitting in a noisy sunless pitch in Marbella I wish I was back in Cabo, the peace was lovely.

Worth a visit

We stayed here for 2 weeks Jan 2018 and felt this deserved someone to give it a decent review. If you appreciate total peace and quiet and are happy to create your own entertainment , it’s definately worth including in your trip. Good pitches, very clean , if slightly tired facilities, super little on site shop and bar. Ignore comments about the poly tunnels, it’s thier industry, I have never seen so many tomatoes and you soon stop focusing on them when there is so much more to see. It really is desert in this area, however it’s not that far to good towns such as La Canada and Almería where you will find everything. Great for walking and dogs, good beaches. Some real high spots like San Jose, which is absolutely beautiful, perfect little cove, super classy marina and some really nice restaurants. Beware of shared water on the pitch you need an adapter.

Almeria Campsites (and Plastic Greenhouses)

Hi, Sept 2017. Didnt stop on site but did a drive in visit. No comment therefore as to facilities. Approach is passing plastic greenhouses and run down scrubland. Decent walk to any shops. Almeria region is now totally blighted by the Plastic Greenhouse and their Horticulture. Have a read and view pictures on here :- https://www.ecowatch.com/europes-dirty-little-secret-moroccan-slaves-and-a-sea-of-plastic-1882131257.html This site is on the fringe of the greenhouses as it is in the National Park area so has been spared a bit. Dry region, plenty of sunny days. We would consider shorter stay in this region only but you may like it. Almeria's relatively quiet Airport is nearby. Reasonably tedious drive from the Motorway to access. Google search the area carefully beforehand. There are few Campsites in this region which is maybe why CMC are including these in listings.

Comment from the Site:

The Almeria region is renowned for its plastic greenhouses which grow fresh fruit and vegetables which can be seen on the way to the campsite

Wall to wall Brits!

Don't get me wrong I love my countymen as much as the next man but when I go abroad I like to meet other cultures. The site itself was very crowded and the pitches were small. Surrounded on 1 side by the oft mentioned plastic greenhouses and the other by scrubland it is not the most beautiful of places to stay. Walking to the beach takes 30 mins and that is nice but that's about it unless you drive out. The facilities were generally good but with the extra metered electricity charge (11 euros for 2 nights!), this was the most expensive site on our trip by far. One to avoid in the future.
