Hi, I am thinking of buying a petrol generator to use as a back up or for when I am wild camping. Does anyone use one or have any advice on which one to get, tips on the output needed etc.

thanks

My tip is to forget it. Solar is efficient and silent, won’t add significantly to your payload, won’t annoy other folk, won’t need a jerry can of fuel and, if fixed to the roof, won’t be vulnerable to theft.

With solar you are more able to go without hook up on sites giving you the option and on all those no hook up CLs. But on most of those generators are not allowed.

I would have thought that having sufficient solar panels and a lithium battery set up in the van, with perhaps a power pack or inverter would make the idea of a generator redundant, also no need to store something containing fuel?
