Good Wardens

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour of the area in May. We'd booked a superior pitch but there was only one left which was not to our liking. The wardens were helpful in finding us a white pitch and the difference was refunded immediately (although we hadn't expected this or asked for it) The following day a superior pitch became free the warden allowed us to move to it. All the staff were very helpful. They also had to deal with some families who allowed their children to jump in the hedging on site! We enjoyed a walk to the house but didn't go in. We walked up the steep hill through woodland to the hunting lodge. It was disappointing that the cafe was closed for a wedding when we got down again! Very clean facilities. Overall a nice site but felt busy and was quite expensive

Compromised & frustrating

Superior pitch was ridiculously tight, with circa 2ft of width to sit outside. I know it's nature, but with the crows & sapphire, I now have a good days worth of cleaning. Pitch was therefore not good value. CL site next time for this area.

Good site shame about the crows and trees

Having visited this site before we were prepared for the fact that it is busy and you take whatever pitch you can. As per other reviews there currently are a number of crows and having ended up under some trees sadly our caravan and sun porch were well and truly covered. The main issue for us though was the fact that the tree in question was a lime tree and sticky sap deposited on the caravan and awning were horrendous. Due to travelling to another site after our short stay at Chatsworth we were only able to clean the sun porch ( 1 hour of water soaking and gentle sponging) before travelling onward. Now home we are faced with potential permanent staining from the bird deposits and sap. It is appreciated that the trees are part of the sites beauty and birds are not a problem of the clubs making but we do feel some pitches (27/28/29) need warnings and potentially removed from use.

Perfect site

Our recent stay of 7 nights was enhanced by the fantastic weather. The site is immaculate, facilities cleaned to perfection (some guests need to be a bit more careful and leave them as they would like to find them). The wardens are first class a lovely friendly bunch we were regulars throughout the summer last year and we’ve booked to go again next month. Walks from the site are varied and interesting. The crows were noisy but part of being in the countryside

Disappointed stay

Our stay was from 22nd May for 4 nights, arrived just after 1pm and chose pitch 92, which was not directly under a tree as majority of the pitches are. Warden decided to mow the lawn at same time we were manoeuvring caravan into pitch. Settled in and awning up, thought we could start to relax, within 4 hours the car was covered in the most horrific bird pooh. This carried on for the rest of our stay. Every day I was having to constantly clean the car, caravan and awning which you don’t expect to have to do when you are on holiday. Constant noise from the crows from early morning to late evening Leaving this morning to be shouted at by warden B that no way could I hitch my caravan to the car on the grass. (I did not want to cause a congestion) Will not be returning as very expensive site and not value for money, car and caravan are going to have to be deep cleaned.

Those Damned Crows

It’s a lovely site but choose your pitch very carefully. There are very noisy crows nesting in the trees everywhere. I made the mistake of parking under a tree, which it’s hard not to, and at the end of our 3 night stay our motorhome was literally covered in sticky black poo. Took me the best part of a day to clean it. Don’t expect too much peace during the day either with their constant squawking. The wardens are absolute jobsworths. Very persnickety when checking in. They didn’t seem to think that my wife’s driving license with her photo on was suitable identification. So, not happy about the crows, not happy with the wardens, and it’s bloody expensive but I do like the site and will return, if I don’t have to park under the trees.

Good location - compact but noisy site

We stayed here for 2 nights in May. The site is very compact, however the pitches are of ample size. The key for the gate to the grounds of Chatsworth is a nice touch, and really enjoyed the open spaces there. I know there is no stopping nature, but the flock of crows nesting in the trees (a lot of trees on that site!) could drown out a busy road at rush hour with their "crowing". Fortunately, they were quiet at night, but announced their presence again at first light. It is an expensive site, and was unable to justify the pricing. The approach road is a long single track road - so don't even think about driving out in the afternoon, or returning before lunchtime - there are passing places, but not many. We probably will not be looking at returning, as once Chatsworth has been visited, the site does not offer much else, there are a number of good (less expensive) sites from which to explore the Peak District.

Very disappointed

I had been recommended this site so despite the high cost thought we would try it on way home from Scotland. The warden couldn't have been less helpful - just told us to look for a site with white pegs. That would have been ok, except there were only two left and she could have told us that and where they were. We found one which was completely in shade. The only other one we could find was near the entrance in a place that looked like it had been done to cater for late arrivals - just a bland area of gravel (not shown on the photos!) I really cannot understand why this site is so expensive. The facilities are nothing special and the fact that you have a key to get into Chatsworth grounds is no big deal as the grounds are accessible to anyone. Will not be back

Great site but expensive

We stayed on this site at Easter after not been able to get on for the last 3 years. It was just as we remembered, the staff / wardens were all really friendly, helpful cannot fault them one bit. They have put together a walking leaflet you can purchase with a small donation to charity. The shower blocks were always kept clean The site is in a great location and walks around Chatsworth grounds are lovely and peaceful, great local pubs close by. However this site along with other club sites have got quite expensive therefore although I can sing this sites praises I cannot justify the price any longer and will be looking at independent sites.

Disappointed

This was our third trip to Chatsworth and we were eagerly anticipating a great midweek break as before. Unfortunately we arrived late afternoon and this is where the problems arise. We had a choice of 3 remaining awning pitches and we were very disappointed with our pitch in that we had no sunshine at all in the afternoon or evening and a huge crow occupied tree overhung our space. We did get a little sun between the trees at breakfast time. This made us look around to compare what the other pitches were like. It was very galling to see the inequality of space, grass and sun on each pitch. Too many pitches are situated on nothing more than a car park and others are bordered by spacious grass areas. Some are in full sun whilst others are in dank areas completely surrounded by trees. We had no choice but to pitch under a large tree which dripped sap over the awning, car and caravan. Not to mention the copious amounts of crow droppings. The resulting foul sticky mess which we now have to deal with is annoying to say the least. At a cost of around £55 for 2 people I do not think such disparity is acceptable or fair. Poor pitches should be priced accordingly. Who wants to sit surrounded by gravel with next door’s awning almost touching your car for the same price as some lucky person surrounded by a spacious grass bordered, sunny pitch! Chatsworth House and the associated walks were lovely as usual but I doubt we will return to this CAMC site.
